Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Review

I have a love-hate relationship with handwriting and the teaching of it.   I know my first graders need it and it's important, but it's one of those things that is always last on my list.  Well my friends at Zaner-Bloser asked me to review their handwriting program with my class.  I was thrilled to get the opportunity.  I have been using it now for a little over two months.  The program has some great elements.

First off when my box arrived, I was excited to see these nice workbooks for each of my students.  They were excited too!  Getting anything new to a first grader is excited, even if it is curriculum.

I like new things too, so I was excited to look through the teacher manual.  One of my favorite things about the program is the connection between handwriting and occupational therapists.  The beginning of the manual has a section of "when to call an OT."  Each lesson also gives a tip from an OT.  I happen to have an OT in my classroom each week for one of my students and I showed the program to her.  She looked it over and was also very impressed with the OT connection.

One of the other things I really like about this program is the student book.  It is colorful and engaging for my students.  They love the QR codes.  I do quite a bit with QR codes, so my students go a little crazy when they discover a new way to use them.  The QR codes lead to a handwriting tutor.  My students can check their work or use the video as a reteach if needed.

I was really impressed with the Zaner-Bloser program.  There are many elements to the program that will meet all of my learners.
