Five For Friday (Saturday)

Happy weekend!  It's an especially wonderful for me because it's a three-day weekend.  I think all weekends should be three days.  I am linking up with with Kacey over at Doodle Bugs Teaching.

1.
We worked on main idea and key details this week.  We read articles about polar bears.  At first, I wrote out a main idea and three key details.  As a class, we had to determine which one was the main idea.  This was a great activity.  We tried a new one each day and by the end of the week, they were getting pretty good at it.

2.
After we read a polar bear article, we defined vocabulary words we may have encountered.  Each day during their Daily 5 time, they worked on two words.  They are turing out great!

3.
One of the cool things we learned about polar bears was the size of their paws.  Did you know they are about 12 inches wide?  Well, first we read What if You Had Animal Feet?

Next we measured 12 inches with measuring cubes and then cut out polar bear feet that were 12 inches wide.  I had already made tracers, but I had them measure first.  We added pads and wrote:

"If I had polar bear feet I would..."

They are hanging up all around my classroom and are so darn cute!

4.

This weekend I am down in the Bay Area for the California Kindergarten Conference.  I'm super excited to see some of my blogging friends and learn new things!

5.

I have added some new QR codes sets, check them out!

Groundhogs

Bears

Primates (monkeys, gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans)

Have a great weekend!
