Book Talk Tuesday- First Day Jitters

I'm linking up with Deanna Jump today for Book Talk Tuesday.  Today I want to share a book that I believe most people know about, but since it is a first day of school favorite of mine I want to revisit it...just in case you don't know about it.

The book is First Day Jitters

I love reading this book to my students because we make assumptions throughout the whole book and it is always fun for them to see who really has the jitters.

This book has a lot of fun vocabulary in it.  Some of my favorite words are jitters, chuckled and trudged.

After reading the book, we dance the jitterbug, and make our own jitterbugs to chase those jitters away.  It's a fun and easy take home project for them on the first day of school.  It's also a great way for me to get a quick assessment as to who can cut.  My class sample is still packed in my classroom, so we made another one at home this summer.

My son named his Johnny the Jitterbug.

  1. Renee, I love that book too! I really like your idea of dancing the jitterbug, so I'll have to add that to my lesson with that book at the start of the school year. Thanks so much!
