We lost a cat a couple of years ago, but our son was only 3. He is 5-1/2 and I knew this would effect him. This book was great to read to him. In the end the family plants a tree in memory of their dog Lulu. We went out this weekend and bought a flowering bush to plant in honor of our dog Max. It was something our son really enjoyed. I also found this book, which I have ordered but not received it yet.
I had read this great thing that Erica Bohrer does with this book in her class. She sends it home to have them read as a family and write a little something on the inside cover of the book. You can read more about it here. What a great idea Erica! My son likes to write in his notebooks, so I made a little memory book for him to make. He loved this and has been reading it nightly.
Click the above picture to get your FREEBIE pet loss book. It's pretty basic because I wanted my five year old to draw his own pictures, not color in clip art. I hope it is helpful to you, your child or student. How have you helped a child deal with the loss of a pet? I would love to hear ideas.
We will miss you Max!
